Belt, Richard Smith, 79 of Hanover, Indiana, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015 at his home.
He was born on August 27, 1935 in Elizabethtown, KY to James Roy Belt and Alice (Wilson) Belt. Richard worked for Mobil Chemical Company as a plant manager in High Point, NC; Louisville and Kankakee, IL, retiring in 1986. He was joined in marriage to Anna (Ann) Lois Vowels on January 25, 1958. Richard spent the majority of his life in Louisville, KY, was a graduate of the University of Louisville, and was a long-time member of the Catholic Community of the Church of the Epiphany. In 2014 Ann and Richard moved to the Hanover area where he was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. In his retirement, he spent time as a docent for the Louisville Cathedral of the Assumption, reading to elementary school children, and working in his woodworking shop. Richard especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, traveling, camping, and fishing with his wife and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother James Roy Belt, II.
Richard is survived by his children: David Anthony Belt and his companion Kathy Peak of Louisville and Timothy Richard Belt and his wife Marta of Madison, IN, and daughter in-law Patricia Belt of Louisville; three sisters: Helen and JC Brown, Ellen and Dennis Paris, and Katherine McMillen of Elizabethtown; and five grandchildren: Alice (Eric) Morris, Franklin, Katie, Joseph, and Emma Belt.
Mass of celebration will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Church of the Epiphany 914 Old Harrods Creek Road, Louisville, with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens East.
Memorials may be made to the Crusade for Children.
