Mary "Polly" Michelsen

September 18, 1940 — May 29, 2022

Louisville

"Polly" as she was affectionately called by all was born and raised in Springfield, KY, the third child of 13 children. Polly was predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Aleen (Matheis) Carrico and her siblings David Carrico, Phyllis Mettling (Earl), Nell Otis, and Joyce Dougherty (Bill).

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Jerry of 58 years, children Kathryn Williams (Jeff), Christopher Michelsen (Kelly) and Douglas Michelsen (Karen) as well as grandchildren, Lucas and Sarah Williams, Jessica Stevens, Sam and Oliver Michelsen, Olivia and Sophia Michelsen and newly born great-granddaughter, Emery Rose Williams. She also leaves behind her siblings Joe Carrico (Beverly), Perry Carrico (Anna), Nickie Grass (Ron), Alma Haluch (Frank), Don Carrico (Joann), Theresa Young-Raley (Bruce), Steve Carrico (Judy), Debi Neace (Gary), and their children.

Polly graduated from St. Catherine Academy and attended St. Catherine Junior College after which she began working at GE Appliance Park as an Administrative Assistant where she met her future husband, Jerome Michelsen. They were wed in 1963 and after starting a family they travelled across the country for Jerry's sales position, residing in Pasadena, California and Edina, Minnesota before returning home to Louisville, Kentucky in 1978.

After returning to Louisville Polly worked at Metro Publishing for 5 years before taking on an office and finance manager position at Eckmann Freeman & Associates, where she successfully juggled accounting and finance duties for more than 20 years.

To say Polly cherished family is an understatement. She loved everything about being in a big family. From the annual Carrico reunion and Christmas party, sister trips, birthday celebrations, luncheons and even weekly garage sale treasure hunts, she lit up every occasion with that unforgettable Polly smile and endearing positive personality.

Any social gathering was a must for Polly, especially if her famous potato salad was served. Between book club, bridge, or an intense game of Rummikub, she just enjoyed the company of others. Of course, her favorite past time was her grandchildren. There wasn't a school or youth sporting event that didn't include Polly.

A Visitation (10-12 PM), Mass (12-1 PM) and Interment (1-2 PM) will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at Louisville Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home East, 11601 Ballardsville Road, Louisville, KY 40241. Reception and lunch will immediately follow.
