Lana Sue Garrett McGown

Lana Sue Garrett McGown, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away on May 8, 2024, in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on December 4, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Everett Edward Garrett and Mae Hignight Garrett. Lana is survived by her loving children Mark (Kelly) and John, and her cherished grandchildren Connor, Reagan, and Isabella. She also leaves behind her sisters Shirley Johnson and Marsha Martin.

Lana's life was one filled with love, faith and dedication to her family. A former cheerleader at Louisville Male High School, Lana was known for her unwavering support for her boys. She went above and beyond to ensure that they were always cared for – providing  stability when needed the most. Her presence at all their sporting events showed her commitment to being present in their lives.

Described as a woman of strong faith, Lana's love for God shone through in every aspect of her life. Her hard-working nature was evident to all who knew her. She began her career with Louisville City Government and ended it with Louisville Metro Government, but spent the majority of her working career in the role of a production manager, earning tremendous loyalty from those she worked with. Lana had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, inspiring love, respect, and loyalty wherever she went. She was generous and kindhearted, never giving up on those she cared for.

In addition to her dedication to her family, Lana enjoyed watching  Louisville and Kentucky basketball and working around her house. 

Lana will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and strength of character. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends who were fortunate enough to have known such a remarkable woman.

May she rest in peace knowing that she lived a life filled with love and touched the lives of many with her genuine compassion and unwavering devotion.

A memorial gathering will be held to honor Lana's memory on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with a private family burial to follow.
