James Nolen

James Thomas Nolen (“Jim”) passed away on November 12, 2021.  He was born November 21, 1930 in Seneca, SC to the late James Lloyd Nolen and Notie O’Daniel Nolen.  Jim was a graduate of Clarksville High School and Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN.  He received his Masters in Religious Education from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Jim was a veteran of the Korean conflict.  He was a minister of education at the First Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA and the Broadway Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.  He was a pilot and founding member of the Bowman Eagles Flying Club, a member of the Experimental Aviation Association (“EAA”) Chapter 110, and the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association (“AOPA”).  He retired from Sullivan University after 40 years of service and was a longtime member of Broadway Baptist Church.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy Hodges Nolen; two precious children, Derek Nolen (Jackie), Kingwood, TX and Kim Gomez (James), Broadview Heights, OH; nine beautiful grandchildren, Katheryn Nolen Harrison (Matthew), Brianna and Trent Nolen, Dorothy Ann Armesto (Daniel), James Jr., Manuel, Mariana, Cecilia, and Christina Gomez, great-grandchildren, Daniel Jr., Tobias, and Estella Armesto, his only living sibling, Sister June Nolen McClure, Cumming, GA, and five nieces and one nephew; Brother-in-law Dewey Hodges (Margaret), Atlanta, GA, and five nephews.  Visitation is from 10am to 11am on December 20, 2021 at the Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY with the service following. Private Burial will be held at Louisville Memorial Gardens East. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Music Departments of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee or Broadway Baptist Church.
