Gilbert Squire

Gilbert Squire died peacefully on October 5, 2022, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 82.

Gilbert was born on January 14, 1940, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Emanuel Squire, Jr. and Frances Myers Squire.

On May 21, 1983, Gilbert was united in marriage to the late Rosetta Marshall Squire.

Gilbert is survived by his sister, Geraldine Kelly; his grandchildren, Angel and Jordyn Kelly, Isiah and De'Von Jones; his nieces and nephew, Jacqueline Squire, Debbra Squire, Monica Walker Robertson (David), Gwendolyn Kelly (Frankie Bibb), all of Louisville, Regina Harris (Darrin) of Frankfort, Ky, Aaron Griffin (Michelle) of Nashville, TN; his daughter, Sharika Jones; ex-wife, Ada Mae Moody Squire; and a host of great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Julian Elliott Squire; his sister, Mary Jane Walker; and his nephew, Ronald Lee Squire.

Gilbert graduated from high school in 1959 and served Overseas in the Army. Gilbert retired from IBM as a Computer Engineer. His pleasures in life included outings with the family, listening to his extensive jazz collection and fishing. He was also an avid sports fan. Keeping albums of statistics on his favorite teams was a life-long hobby.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 1PM, at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Homes East, 11601 Ballardsville Road, with Rev. Walter Holder, Associate Minister, Bates Memorial Baptist Church Officiating.  Friends may call on the family from 11AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Entombment will follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens Cemetery East.
