George Montgomery Jr

May 22, 1936 — April 12, 2016

George Robert Montgomery, Jr, 79, passed away on April 12th, 2016 at his home in Crestwood, KY, surrounded by family, after an eight month battle with cancer. He was born in Louisville, KY on May 22, 1936, the son of George Robert Montgomery, Sr and Maude Bryant Montgomery. A 1955 graduate of Male High School, he was active in the choir and ROTC.

George was employed at Tube Turns in Louisville, where he met his future wife, the former Geraldine Arnett. He later worked at the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, and ultimately worked at, and retired from, Citizens Fidelity Bank / PNC Bank. A true computer pioneer, George worked on some of the earliest business computers in the city of Louisville.

He served in the Army National Guard, and was on the church council at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shively. He also spent seven years as the Sunday School Superintendent at St. Paul and sang in the choir. In 1993, he was a founding member of the Oldham County Evangelical Lutheran Church Preaching Point, which ultimately chartered as Grace & Glory Evangelical Lutheran Church in Goshen, KY.

He loved to travel with his family, and particularly enjoyed taking cruises. His favorite times, however, were spent at events where his children or grandchildren were involved: school concerts, marching band performances, cross-country meets, track meets, baseball games, basketball games, Cub Scout / Boy Scout events, and more.

George is survived by his loving wife of nearly 57 years, Geraldine Arnett Montgomery, son Michael Robert Montgomery (Rhonda), daughter Robyn Michelle Wilson (Mark), and four grandsons: Kevin Robert Montgomery, Shaun Michael Montgomery, Tyler Mark Wilson, and Landon Chen Wilson.

Interment will be at Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Memorial contributions may be made in George's name to Grace & Glory Evangelical Lutheran Church in Goshen, KY or the American Cancer Society.
