Antoinette Ann "Nonna" Sgro was loved by every one she knew, a devoted daughter, sister, wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother and Great Grandmother of her loving Family and a dear friend to all she met. She entered into her Forever Life on December 28, 2014.
Born in Akron, Ohio on February 8, 1916 to Joseph and Grace Russo, she moved to Louisville, KY in 2002. Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles C. Sgro and was the last of five sisters and two brothers. She graduated from Akron North High School, Class of January 1934, and from Hammel Business College.
She served as an officer in many organizations over the years including Harris School and North High School PTA's, Theta Chi Mothers Club, Father Duffy Post and Yvonne Social Club and the Sons of Italy. She also volunteered for 25 years with the Akron Chapter of the Meals on Wheels.
When she moved to Louisville, she joined the Community of Epiphany's Catholic Church and their Silver Sages and Bible Study Group. She was a member of the Northeast YMCA for her last twelve years working out on the different exercise machines, that kept track of her points earned on a computer, (over a thousand points), and participated in many of their activities. She immediately joined Louisville's Senior Center.
She is survived by her two Sons, John Sgro (Mary Jo) of Bloomington IN/Houston, TX and Chuck Sgro (Nancy) of Louisville, KY, her five adoring grandchildren, Megan Sgro Horrar (Rob), Jacquelyn Sgro Brown (Mitch), Jennifer Sgro Sellers (Mark), Nicole Sgro and CJ Sgro (Terri), and seven very loving great-grand children, Stone Douglas Sellers, Jadyn Grace Sgro, Brody Clay Sellers, Zachary Cole Sgro Horrar, Charles Abel Sgro, Hayden Mitchell Brown and Ethan Tyler Sgro Horrar and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will take place at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home East, 11601 Ballardsville Rd.,on Tuesday, December 30th from 3:00-7:00, followed immediately by a prayer service. A Celebration of her New Life Liturgy will take place at Community of Epiphany at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 31st.
Entombment will take place 10:00 am Friday, January 2, 2014 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron, Ohio.
